Cambridge Latin Course ~ Sample Pages
Below are sample pages from Book II of the Cambridge Latin Course. The five textbooks in the Course aim to teach comprehension of the Latin language for reading purposes and to develop an understanding of the history and culture of Roman civilisation. Primary evidence is used alongside stories set in the first century AD.
The storyline itself begins in Pompeii and moves through the provinces of Egypt and Britain to imperial Rome. As the language develops, students study topics such as daily life in Pompeii, the provinces of Britain and Egypt, the army, gladiatorial combat, slavery, religion and the role of women in Roman society.
